Stunning Glass Art: Sculptures made of Glass Beads
Like the Lego animal sculptures we featured yesterday? Today we will present you with another set of stunning animal sculptures made of thousands of glass beads. Kohei Nawa , the artist behinds those amazing glass art, is a sculptor and assistant professor at Kyoto University of Art and Design. He has done a lot of great artwork, while for me, his work in beads is particularly interesting. By covering surface of an object with transparent glass beads, the existence of the object itself is replaced by “ a husk of light “, and the new vision “the cell of an image” ( PixCell ) is shown. Those beautiful glass beads resemble huge dew drops, which make the sculptures incredibly sparkling. Really love how he beautifully incorporates nature… [ source ],[ source ]

Red Paint & Testing Glass Beads
We made a lot of progress tonight, not only getting a considerable way through the first coat of red paint, but also testing a variety of techniques for applying the retroreflective glass beads! We also got to spend some time talking through how we’ll be temporarily installing the letters in a variety of spaces. We figure that there’s still at least a few more weeks of preparation and tests, but we’re really getting excited to get these out into the world. There were a few more letters left over from last week that we needed to finish priming. Karlyn and Rosina using the oil-based primer. We ended up going with just one coat of primer — a fair base for what we figured would be two coats of red paint. Meanwhile, Michelle started working with cheesecloth to try to control the pouring of the retroreflective glass beads. Cheesecloth and a strainer for applying the beads to wet paint. Michelle also put on coat of red paint on the test cardboard Rosina brought last week

Artisan Glass Beads by Sherry Bellamy
Sherry Bellamy is a primarily self-taught glass bead and sculpture artist. Her beautiful designs feature amazing and intricate patterns, which are all painstakingly planned and ‘built from the inside out.’ She creates using a technique called lampworking and melts the glass with a torch before manipulating it with various tools until the desired result is achieved. Her art is then made into jewelry, loose beads, and glass sculptures that each give a slightly different peek into a magical and foreign world. Sherry Bellamy lives in British Columbia and sells her glasswork in various galleries and online via eBay (I especially love this necklace listed for $245). Book review and giveaway: Creating Glass Beads
Jeri L Warhaftig is already the author of one very fine Lark publication on glass bead making , so you might not think there’s a need for another. Wrong! Creating Glass Beads is different in scope and design from any other how-to book I’ve ever seen. Jeri introduces ten beads as projects, each one covering multiple intermediate and advanced techniques, from constructing hollow beads and mirroring the insides to creating advanced stringers and trying out lapidary work. Here’s the kicker: Jeri has invited fourteen project testers to try out her instructions and see what happened. I don’t know about you, but I’m extremely thankful to know that I’m not the only one who doesn’t always get it right the first time! And the variety of styles that grow from Jeri’s instructions will also be inspiring to everyone who likes to color outside the lines anyway! The step-by-steps are really clear, with excellent photographs, but the message is also clear: do what you want with these ideas!
