Sustainability You Can Wear
When did you start making with Ponoko and what type of products do you make? I started making with Ponoko nearly two years ago. I make statement earrings, necklaces, brooches, and hairclips out felt and bamboo ply. I also now offer acrylic jewelry trees, which I created out of not being able to find the perfect jewelry display for my pieces. Necessity really is the mother of invention!

Twisted Silver. How much do I love thee?
Let me count thy ways….. And, while I am at it,Shamballa Jewellery, tell you about my newest-latest-greatest-piece and do a little bragging about my new-fangled jewelry display. I was sick and tired of not being able to find my jewelry in my jewelry drawer when suddenly the genius in me reared it’s intelligent little head and gave me an idea. Of course, I’m sure I’ve never seen this done elsewhere and it’s completely my original idea…….

Maps into Kid Outfits
After quite the day running around lusting after a time when cars were so so so much more than just cars… and before getting to the most incredible dinner at Cassanova in Carmel ~ when parking on Ocean Ave, we ended up right next to these windows! And as hungry as i was, simply had to stop and take pics! Adorable window display celebrating “Concours on the Avenue” in Carmel with kids’ outfits made of maps! Very well done, freshwater Pearl Necklaces, and quite the contrast to what you’d find actually IN the store… and of the all the windows we wandered past, it was certainly the most interesting. Others simply added ferrari posters to their jewelry displays and such, whereas these guys went all out! Take a look at the details on the next page ~ the pockets, the shoes, so cute ~ and so much attention to the details,Pearl jewelry! SOCIETY IN BRIEF 30/8
Early in the morning on August 24, Trinh Van Ngoc, the 37-year-old owner of the jewelry shop, his wife Dinh Thi Chin, 35, and daughter Trinh Phuong Thao, 19, were found killed at Ngoc Bich Jewelry Shop at 45 San Street, Phuong Son Commune, Luc Nam District. Another daughter, nine-year-old Trinh Ngoc Bich, had her right arm chopped off by the attackers. On the way to Viet Duc Hospital in Hanoi for emergency treatment, Bich said two young men with hair dyed red and blue were the culprits, but she had been unable to see their faces clearly. The police said all the gold and money from a safe on the second floor had been stolen but some jewelry displayed in the shop on the first floor had been left behind. An estimated 50-70 taels (1 tael = 1.2 ounce) of gold worth US$96,700-135,500 had been robbed, they said. The Ministry of Public Security has been backing the local police in the investigation. Woodland Treasures
This is a recent series that sprouted up in the middle of my last craft fair. On the second day of the show, having sold out of one popular style, I brought along these pretty copper leaf sprig centerpieces and strung them up with the handful of little Terra Trinket charms that I had on hand. They were just as popular as the sold out item that I was replacing, I am pleased to say! I noticed that this particular audience appreciated the cute, earthy nature themes that I had in my booth, which has me excited to return to that style next year. I got many new ideas for jewelry and display and it feels good to come back to natural motifs after working with the industrial and steampunk themes I have been focused on for the past couple of years. It has almost been like they have been two separate interests (the industrial and the natural themes). Perhaps I will seek a way to combine them in future works.

Home Studio Show Wrap Up and Extra Links
Here are a few pics I took from my home show. I had a good turn out and a great time! I will definitely do it again next year and will be sure to promote it earlier and maybe have it last two days long. I might even have another mini sale night in December, if I find there is enough interest from people who missed this weekend’s event… My dining room transformed pretty easily into a fancy jewelry and bead boutique! I used the shelves that usually display my Yixing teapots to hold necklace displays and my kitchen table and slate shipping table to hold bead and more jewelry displays. Jeremy put up a shelf I bought for the room and I filled it up with more displays. It will be used to hold my wine glasses or some kitchen items now that the show is over, but I am pleased to know how easily I can transform the room again for another show! I set up a little table in the living room for my gifts and ornaments. I don’t know where they all came from!

Open Today: Mas Malo Revives Restored Downtown Space
Rolled eggplant and potato tacos (Lindsay William-Ross/LAist) NEXT ? If you’ve ever climbed the carpeted stairs to Downtown’s favorite whiskey bar, 7 Grand, you may have wondered what was on the ground floor, and behind the wall to your left. For several years that space remained vacant, and only now has been restored, renovated, and re-purposed as an even more east-side sibling of Silver Lake’s popular Malo restaurant. Built in the 1920s as a jewelry store, and home once upon a time to Clifton’s Cafeteria’s Silver Spoon , the space that is Mas Malo incorporates the original murals, vaulted and embellished ceilings, and jewelry display cases into its design. The menu is largely the same as the original restaurant, including the head chef’s family favorite ground beef and pickle tacos that are oh-so-perfect for carnivores who need to soak up a Spicy Cucumber Margarita or two.
